Russian Ballet in Dublin

There is a unique performance going on in the Dublin theatre "The Helix" five nights in a row from March, 29 till April, 2 – ballet “Fairytale about Tsar Saltan”, which was put on stage due to the work of talented Russian dancers and not less talented English producers. Irish ballet admirers as well as all the interested in Russian culture were able to learn about classical Russian ballet and Russian music and Russian literature.
Created according to the motives of A.S. Pushkin piece “Fairytale about Tsar Saltan” and staged to the music by M. Musorgsky, P.I. Tchaikovsky, M.Glinka and N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov this ballet became a joint project of "The Russian Fairytale Ballet Production" and ensemble of folk instruments “Art-Contrast”.
Bavarian ballet soloists (Germany), ex-key dancers from Mariinsky theatre Elena Pankova and Kirill Melnikov as well as “Saint Petersburg Ballet” dancers (director – Marina Medvetzkaya) were involved in this performance. Choreographer and ballet producer – Dmitry Katunin (Munich). Musical arrangement by “Art-Contrast” – a creative teamwork of young, talented and professional musicians, Saint Petersburg conservatory graduates, laureates of various international contests.
The ballet-tale Premiere took place at "Deutsches Theater" Munich on December 2003. Today this performance is given in Dublin and has a great success. Elena Pankova – the soloist says that this staging is a peculiar attempt to remind us that classical russian ballet still exists. “We are trying to remain the traditions of russian ballet school, which was always considered the best. Our play is a nice fairytale for kids as well as adults with a very beautiful costumes and colorful decors”. By the way, this is not first time Elena dances in Dublin, she already performed here when she was in Mariinsky theatre troupe. The present russian dancers trip to Ireland met some surprises according to Elena Pankova words. Seeking for the scenicń costumes lost during the flight, that were delivered to Dublin two hours before the premiere, the artists were pretty nervous. But in spite of all troubles the first and the other performances were excellent and kindly greeted by Irish audience.
